Botswana is a landlocked country of great beauty and infinite variety bordered by South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia. At the northern edge of the Kalahari Desert lies the 'Jewel of the Kalahari', the Okavango Delta. Here a magical region is created where the mighty Okavango River, tamed by the semi-desert, spills its water over an area covering some 12,000 square kilometres (7,000 square miles). The river's waters then disappear into the thirsty sands, never to reach the ocean to the south. This inland Okavango Delta, with its permanent water supply supports the most varied profusion of plant and animal life in southern Africa. In all, there are more than 160 mammal species, ranging from the greater kudu, tsessebe, sitatunga and reedbuck, to herds of Cape buffalo, red lechwe, zebra, sable antelope, the black-maned lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe and elephant. Botswana has a rudimentary road system and travel between camps is by light aircraft. Our safari commences in Maun, the flights to and from Maun and the camps are never more than half an hour to forty minutes. The tour will visit camps that will reflect all the different scenery wild-life and ecology of this fascinating country.
The camps in the Delta are all luxuriously appointed, each camp comprises of not more than eight tents giving a maximum of 16 persons in camp at any one time, the tents are well equipped with plumbed-in toilets and showers and are built raised decks for maximum security.
