Saturday 18th October This morning there will be a guided sightseeing tour of Boston including Beacon Hill, Massachusetts State House, Trinity Church, Boston Common and The Old North Church, where Paul Revere got the signal to start his famous ride. Lunch on your own today can be taken at Quincy Marketplace, which is lined with all kinds of foods and interesting boutiques. Rest of the day at leisure for independent activities. Sunday 19th October Depart Boston this morning and journey north entering the state of New Hampshire. Visit this morning a fruit farm of over 400 acres. They grow mainly apples as well as pears, peaches, pumpkins and squash. Continue north passing the state’s capital dome at Concord and then crossing into the Vermont. Known as the Green Mountain State, Vermont is one of the USA’s most attractive and least populated states. With one cow for every two residents it has the country’s largest concentration of dairy farms This afternoon will also provide the best opportunity for seeing some of the spectacular autumn foliage for which New England is famous as drive through the White Mountain National Forest. Monday 20th October This morning we visit Shelburne Farms, a dairy farm owned by a branch of the Vanderbilt family. Today the farm has a Brown Swiss dairy herd and makes cheese from their milk which they sell locally. Lunch will be included today. This afternoon depart for Montreal crossing over the Canadian border. Montreal is the biggest city in the province of Quebec, the largest French speaking community outside France. Tuesday 21st October This morning enjoy a guided tour of Montreal including Notre Dame Basilica, the old Seminary of St. Sulpice, and a drive to the top of Mount Royal to enjoy a panorama of the city.
In the afternoon, depart for the ‘Montérégie’, a vast and attractive expanse of hill country to the southeast of Montréal, home to many vineyards, orchards and maple groves. It is bordered by the St. Lawrence River and bisected by the Richelieu River. Visit a farm in this area. Overnight: MONTREAL (B)
Wednesday 22nd October Depart this morning for Kingston, on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Board a boat for the 'Heart of the Islands' cruise through part of the unique archipelago of the Thousand Islands. Lunch is included on board. This afternoon continue to Toronto, Canada’s largest city on the shores of Lake Ontario. Overnight: TORONTO (BL)
Thursday 23rd October After a leisurely start today we head out of the city into the fertile agricultural region of south-west Ontario. Visit a beef cattle feedlot in the Waterloo area, and the historic village of St Jacobs. Here there will also be a chance to visit the farmers’ market, one of the largest in Ontario and where you will find aisle upon aisle of fresh produce from across the province. Enjoy local delicacies, including summer sausage and pure maple syrup sold by Mennonite farmers who travel to market by horse and buggy. Return later this afternoon to Toronto. Overnight: TORONTO (B)
Friday 24th October This morning there will be some free time to explore Toronto. Why not take this opportunity to go up CN Tower for an unforgettable view of Lake Ontario and the city of Toronto? In the afternoon, drive around the “Golden Horseshoe” of Lake Ontario and through vineyards and rich farmlands. A stop will be made en route at a winery for a demonstration of the wine making process and an opportunity to sample some local wines. Continue via the picturesque village of Niagara-on-the-Lake to Niagara Falls. After check-in, the evening is free for independent dining options. You could try having dinner in the revolving restaurant of the Skylon Tower, with its excellent night-time views of the falls. Overnight: NIAGARA FALLS (B)
Saturday 25th October This morning will be free for independent sightseeing of the falls, with options such as the 'Maid of the Mist' boat trip available. Later, we cross the border into the US at Rainbow Bridge, entering New York State. In the agriculturally productive state, a wide variety of crops and vegetables are grown, and our itinerary today will include a local grower. Continue to the town of Elmira for overnight. Dinner will be included in the hotel tonight. Overnight: ELMIRA (BD)
Sunday 26th October This morning travel on into Pennsylvania, passing by the rolling Appalachian Mountains, with the prospect of more spectacular fall foliage en route. Arrive later in the city of Baltimore, where we check into our hotel located near the recently developed inner harbour. Overnight: BALTIMORE (B)
Monday 27th October This morning depart for Washington D.C, the nation's capital. Today there will be a guided tour of the US capital featuring Arlington National Cemetery, Vietnam, Korean and WWII memorials as well as many other well known sites. The rest of the day will be free for independent sightseeing. Overnight: BALTIMORE (B)
Tuesday 28th October This morning, we return to Pennsylvania, where our destination is Lancaster County. This is home to the Amish community, whose faith stresses humility, family, community, simple living, and separation from the world. Today visit an Amish farm where a local guide will explain the faith, culture and traditional way of life which excludes modern conveniences such as electricity and telephones. Tonight enjoy a traditional local meal. Overnight: LANCASTER COUNTY (BD)
Wednesday 29th October Travel north this morning to Philadelphia. There will be some time free for sightseeing independently, with major attractions to see including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. There will be the opportunity to purchase lunch, before continuing north through New Jersey en route to New York. After some free time to explore this afternoon, there will be a farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight: NEW YORK (BD)
Thursday 30th October Most of the day will be free for some final sightseeing and shopping before the transfer to the airport for the return flight home. (B)
