Monday 29th September Depart from UK. On arrival in Bucharest meet your local guide and board the tour coach. Depart Bucharest and travel north along the Prahova Valley en route to the popular mountain resort of Sinaia. Sinaia is scenically located in the foothills of Southern Carpathian mountains. Welcome dinner tonight.

Tuesday 30th September This morning visit Peles castle, the summer royal residence built in late 19th cent by the first Romanian King. It is one of the most exquisite royal palaces in Europe. We then cross the mountains into Transylvania. There will be a visit to Bran Castle, one of the castles built by Vlad the Impaler and often referred to as Dracula's castle. We continue afterwards to the town of Brasov where there will be a walking tour and a visit to the Black Church. Surrounded on three sides by mountains Brasov is one of the largest and most important cities of the country. The medieval old town, founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211, is one of the best preserved in all of Europe. Tonight there will be a traditional Romanian dinner with folk music. Wednesday 1st October Depart Brasov this morning and drive to the village of Ilieni where there will be a visit to a typical mixed livestock and arable farm of this region. Later today we enter in the Seckler region of Eastern Transylvania which has a large ethnic Hungarian population and where Hungarian culture and influences are still dominant. We visit a Hungarian village where the locals will demonstrate some of the traditional rural activities and crafts that are still practiced there.

Thursday 2nd October We leave Hungarian Transylvania and return to “Saxon” Transylvania, an area settled by German immigrants during the Middle Ages. We visit first the village of Cris to visit a dairy farm. Continue afterwards to the picturesque village of Biertan village which is a Unesco World Heritage site. Lunch is included at a local restaurant. Continue to Sighisoara a perfectly preserved medieval town surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery. Eleven towers remain on the town’s intact city walls, inside which are sloping cobbled streets lined with 16th century merchant houses. Sighisoara is also famous for being the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Overnight: SIGHISOARA (BD)
Friday 3rd October Depart Sighisoara this morning for the historic town of Sibiu – European capital of culture in 2007. Also included today is a home hosted lunch at Sibiel serving traditional Romanian food and a visit to a sheep farm. Overnight: SIBIU (BL)
Saturday 4th October Depart hotel this morning for the return journey to Bucharest. En route there will be a visit to Azuga winery, founded in 1892 as a producer of sparkling white wine according to the Champagne method for the Romanian Royal Court. After a lunch and wine-tasting continue on to Bucharest for a sightseeing tour.Farewell dinner tonight at Jaristea restaurant. Overnight: BUCHAREST (BLD)
