Vietnam is a country most people have heard of but until recently few have had the opportunity to visit.  The haunting beauty of the country is complemented by the warmth and hospitality of its people.  The landscape is uniquely attractive with a lush green patchwork of rice paddies, soaring mountain peaks and miles of white sandy beaches.  Their culture is drawn from a rich history extending back thousands of years, reflecting both strong Chinese and French influences.

Rice production represents the backbone of the rural economy and Vietnam is now one of the world’s largest rice exporters. However also found are many other traditional small scale agricultural enterprises including, fruit farming, vegetable production and aquaculture.

This year’s tour also features a short visit across the border into Cambodia, a country which also has only in recent years opened up for tourists. We include the capital Phnom Penh and the magnificent temple complex at Angkor, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Built by the Khmer civilization between 802 and 1220 AD the Angkor complex comprises over 100 stone temples, all that survives of a grand religious, social and administrative metropolis that once existed on this site.

The city was eventually destroyed and abandoned and then was lost for centuries hidden in dense jungle. A French explorer re-discovered the ruins in the 19th century and now the Angkor Temple complex rightfully takes its place as one of the great wonders of the ancient world.
