Tuesday 16th February The party will assemble at London Heathrow Terminal 3 in time to check in for the flight MH0003 departing for Kuala Lumpur at 10.50am Wednesday 17th February Arrive at Kuala Lumpur at 7.10am and transfer to the flight MH2564 to Kuching departing at 10.05am arriving in Kuching at 11.50am. Here the party will be met by the guide who will accompany them and transferred to the Grand Margherita Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure Get-together dinner tonight to meet your fellow-travellers Overnight: Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching (D) Thursday 18th February Depart after breakfast for the Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre. Here there will be a chance to see these semi-wild Orang-Utans as they come down from the jungle for food prepared by the forest rangers. A sighting is not guaranteed, but they are seen on the majority of occasions. Afterwards there will be a visit to the Pitcher Plant and Orchid Garden situated in the little bazaar of Padawan. There many different species of Pitcher plants to be seen here as well as orchids. Return afterwards to the city in time to have a Chinese Set Lunch. In the afternoon there will be a 3 hour Kuching City Tour which includes visits to the Sarawak Museum, Kuching Waterfront, Tua Pek Kong Temple ( the oldest Taoist Temple in Sarawak) the Old State Mosque, the Old Courthouse area, a stop at a Pottery Factory to see where beautiful pots are hand-made and hand-painted; and also a bird’s nest processing plant. Return to the hotel later this afternoon. Overnight: Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching (BL) Friday 19th February Depart after breakfast for the Lemanak Longhouse Safari. Leave the main luggage at the hotel and just take an overnight bag. A morning drive from Kuching will arrive at a jetty at Lemanak for the journey up river in native longboats to Nanga Kesit Longhouse. After settling in at the Resthouse there will be a tour of the surrounding area before enjoying a dinner prepared by the guide. After dinner visit the Longhouse to see the ‘Ngajat’, where the village maidens dance to the beat of gongs and ‘engkerumong’. Return afterwards to the resthouse. Resthouse accommodation is clean but very basic, dormitory style with shared bathrooms.
Overnight: Resthouse in Lemanak (BD) Saturday 20th February After breakfast there will be a blow-pipe demonstration by the people of the Nnaga Kesit Longhouse before bidding them farewell and taking the longboat back to the Lemanak Jetty. The coach will meet the party for the transfer back to Kuching with lunch en route. Arrive back in Kuching this afternoon and check in again to the hotel. The evening is free to allow for individual choice for dinner. Overnight: Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching (BL) Sunday 21st February After breakfast at the hotel transfer to Kuching Airport for the early flight to Miri departing at 7.00am. On arrival at Miri transfer to the flight to Mulu National Park. On arrival at Mulu transfer to the Royal Mulu Resort to check in and purchase lunch. In the afternoon proceed to the Headquarters of the Park in order to register, and continue to Lang’s Cave which contains interesting rock formations. Afterwards visit Deer Cave. This is the largest cave passage in the world, the main chamber measures 174 metres wide by 122 metres high. Within the cave is a place known as the ‘Garden of Eden’, a place of real beauty and tranquility. There is also a rock formation closely resembling the features of Abraham Lincoln. If the weather is suitable there may be the chance to see myriads of bats leaving the cave in the late afternoon in order to feed. Return to the Royal Mulu Resort in time for dinner Overnight: Royal Mulu Resort Hotel, Mulu (BD) Monday 22nd February After breakfast take a longboat on the Melinau River to the Penan Resettlement, where the Penan people struggle to maintain their way of life dependant on the forest and the facility to hunt for the wild boar and other animals of the forest on which they depend for survival. A friendly and welcoming people, they will demonstrate their way of life and show how they are affected by the deprivations of logging. The boat ride will then continue to where there is a plankwalk from the river to the entrance of Wind Cave to see the impressive stalactites, stalagmites, flowrocks and helitites that are found within it. The next visit is to Clearwater Cave, said to be the longest cave in Asia. There is a crystal clear stream that flows out of the cave which is an excellent swimming spot. A picnic lunch will be served here. After lunch return to the Royal Mulu Resort where the rest of the afternoon is at leisure until time for dinner. Overnight: Royal Mulu Resort Hotel, Mulu. (BLD) Tuesday 23rd February After breakfast transfer to Mulu Airport for the flight to Miri departing a 10.10am. On arrivqal in Miri there will be some time in the city to visit the excellent shops, have lunch and do some sightseeing before taking the flight to Kota Kinabalu departing at 4.35pm On arrival at Kota Kinabalu transfer to the Promenade Hotel for overnight Overnight: Promenade Hotel, Kota Kinabalu (B) Wednesday 24th February After an early breakfast transfer to the Airport for the flight to Sandakan On arrival at Sandakan airport , transfer to the jetty for ride by speedboat to Selingan On arrival at Selingen Chalet check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure to explore the island, swim and snorkel. After dinner, on the signal from the Park Ranger, proceed in small groups to watch the Green Turtle lay eggs on the beach, the Rangers transplant some of the eggs to a hatchery and release baby turtles into the sea. Visitors are invited to assist. This island is a park conservation area formed in 1977 and the turtles nest here every night throughout the year. Overnight: Selingan Chalet, Selingan (BLD) Thursday 25th February After breakfast take the speedboat ride back to Sandakan and en route visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Take a short walk through the rainforest on a plank walk to see the feeding of the orang utans followed by a video show. Continue by boat for two hours to Sukau Rainforest Lodge on Kinabatangan, Sabah's longest river. Here there is the opportunity to see many birds and other wildlife living in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats. Later in the afternoon take another river cruise to search for of some of the ten primate species resident in the area including Proboscis monkeys as they settle down for the night on the treetops along the Kinabatangan River. Continue to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge for a solar-heated hot shower, candle light dinner and a slide show given by the naturalist guide. Overnight: Sukau Rainforest Lodge. (BLD) Friday 26th February An early wake-up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills, take a 6.00 am morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to enjoy the early morning spectacle of birds and many other species of wildlife. Some of the species that can be seen includePurple and Striated Herons, Grey-headed Fishing-eagle, White-fronted Falconet, Thick-billed Green-pigeon, Long-tailed Parakeet, Orange-backed Woodpecker. Proboscis Monkey, Silvered Langurs, Long-tailed Macaque, Orang Utan and Estuarine Crocodile After breakfast proceed to the Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake for a short jungle walk (if weather permits) to experience the true wilderness of Borneo. There is an option to participate in the conservation project by planting trees in the 64 acres of adopted land. After lunch take another river cruise in search of more wildlife. Overnight: Sukau Rainforest Lodge. (BLD) Saturday 27th February After breakfast, join the boat for the return to Sandakan Lunch will be taken at Sandakan before a short tour of Sandakan town including the water village, including the Agnes Keith House and The Australian War Memorial. Transfer to the airport for the 5.20pm flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Arrive Kota Kinabalu and return to the Promenade Hotel for overnight Overnight Promenade Hotel, Kota Kinabalu (BL) Sunday 28th February After breakfast there will be an overland transfer through the paddy-fields and Dusun villages over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu (5,000ft) arriving at the park headquarters at Kundasang to see the Visitor Centre and Mountain Garden. The garden contains many of the 24 species of flowering rhododendrons, 10 species of carnivorous pitcher plants, estimated 1,400 species of orchids, over 600 species of ferns, more than 40 species of oak trees and over 300 species of birds. Afterwards continue the journey to Poring to explore the tropical rainforest along the jungle trail and traverse the treetop canopy walkways suspended 41 meters above the forest floor. Return to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight: Promenade Hotel ,Kota Kinabalu (BL) Monday 1st March Breakfast at the hotel with time at leisure until it is time to transfer to the airport for the flight to Kuala Lumpar. On arrival at Kuala Lumpur transfer to the local flight to Langkawi for a three-night stop-over to enjoy the beach, the wonderful facilities and the duty-free shopping. Overnight: At a luxury hotel Langkawi (B) Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd March Free time for two days to follow independent activities. Overnight:At a luxury hotel Langkawi (B) Thursday 4th March Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Kuala Lumpur. On arrival at Kuala Lumpur. The remainder of the day will be spent sightseeing and shopping until time to connect with the return flight to London departing at 11.55pm (B)
