Andalucia, known to many as "the bridge between two continents", is a direct link between Europe and Africa, and the place where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean. The area has been home to numerous cultures reflected in the architecture of the area which is an exotic blend of the Moorish heritage with the Alhambra and the Mezquita in Cordoba, to Renaissance and Baroque. The culture has traditions of music, dance and cuisine which can be traced back to the ancient Islamic occupation, best known and loved is the exotic Flamenco. The largest region of Spain, it features a great diversity of landscapes, from mountains valleys and woodland to spectacular coasts, and stunning national parks. One of the best known is the Donana National Park which the tour will be visiting, a huge wetland area and a bird habitat of huge international importance. Saturday 12th May Assemble at an airport of your choice subject to flight availability for a morning flight to Malaga arriving late morning, where you will be met by your tour manager and join the coach for the scenic drive to Granada. On arrival in Granada in the afternoon there will be a short sightseeing tour including the Cathedral and tomb of Ferdinand and Isabella. The evening will be free with the opportunity to take a tour to Albaycin and Sacromonte for a Gypsy Flamenco Show Overnight: Granada
Sunday 13th May In the morning depart by coach for a tour of the Las Alpujarras area and the villages such as Lanjarion, Capiliera and Trevelez, visiting en route traditional craft workshops and a vineyard. In the afternoon visit the famous Alhambra and the Generallife gardens. Overnight: Granada (B)
Monday 14th May Depart this morning for the scenic drive to the Parque Natural Sierra Subbetica, with wonderful mountain landscapes and an abundance of waterways, lined with elm and willow groves. There will be visits en route to the picturesque villages of Luque and Zuheros. Continue to Baena with a break for lunch, followed by a visit to an olive oil mill. Continue to Cordoba, evening free for your own exploration of this lovely town. Overnight: Cordoba (BL)
Tuesday 15th May Depart after breakfast for a morning walking tour of the old city of Cordoba including the famous cathedral/mosque, known as the ‘Mezquita’, the Jewish Quarter, Alacazar, the workshop of a silversmith and also a leather-workshop to see the traditional embossing techniques. Lunch will be taken in the old town of Cordoba, and afterwards the coach will depart for Seville. On arrival there will be a short orientation tour of Seville arriving afterwards at the hotel. The evening will afford an opportunity to explore the nightlife and restaurants on your own, your tour manager will help you choose from the many delights that are available. Overnight: Seville (BL)
Wednesday 16th May After breakfast depart for a city sightseeing tour of Seville including the Giralda, an ancient Arabic minaret the Gothic Cathedral, Alcazar, Plaza de Espana and Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter. Afterwards drive to Gerena for a traditional Spanish lunch and a tour of a fighting brave bull ranch. Return to the hotel in Seville in the late afternoon. This evening there is an opportunity to take a special evening walking tour round Caleche with a’tapas’ dinner included. Overnight: Seville (BL)
Thursday 17th May Today will be a special day for seeing wildlife, taking a guided tour of the Donana National Park. This exclusive and protected park which affords extensive salt marshes, cork oak woodland and dunes is home to vast numbers of birds and mammals. Lunch will be included in a typical village sampling local traditional Spanish dishes. On leaving the park drive to Jerez de la Frontera for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Jerez (BLD)
Friday 18th May There will be an early morning visit to a Sherry wine cellar with wine tasting at a local Bodega followed by the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art so see a training session. Afterwards, depart for the drive to Ronda with lunch en route, visiting the pretty mountain village of Arcos de la Frontera. In the afternoon there will be a visit to a pottery factory “Alfarería” before continuing to the hotel in Ronda. Tonight is an opportunity to discover local restaurants, your tour manager will have some recommendations. Overnight: Ronda (BL)
Saturday 19th May After breakfast there will be a morning walking tour of Ronda, visiting the bullring, the old Muslim town (La Ciudad), and the spectacular Tajo, a hundred-metre deep gorge in the heart of the town. After lunch depart for the drive to Malaga, travelling through the majestic mountain scenery of the Serrania de Ronda. On arrival at Malaga check into the hotel. In the evening there will be the opportunity to join a farewell dinner in a seafood restaurant by the beach of la Carihuela or in the Parador of Málaga (overlooking de city from Gibralfaro Mountain). Saturday 25th November Today will be a free day in Malaga to shop or visit some of the many galleries or museums, such as the Picasso Museum, the Contemporary Art Centre of Malaga or the beautiful gardens at Consula or El Retiro. Assemble at the hotel in the late afternoon for the return flight to London. Arrive at your airport in the evening. (B)
